Wearing a tuxedo is not something we do every day so it is important to understand just how a tuxedo is put together.  What I mean by “put together” is what accessories you will need to complete your tuxedo ensemble.  Whether you are buying your tuxedo or renting a tuxedo from a local shop, you need to make sure you have everything you need to complete your look.

Once you have picked out the style of tuxedo you are going to wear you, need then need to focus on your tuxedo accessories.

While the list may seem long you may not need everything on it.  Many of the tuxedo accessories you will need will depend entirely on the style of tux you are wearing.  Some like the tuxedo vest option with tie, while others like a more conservative look wearing a cummerbund and bow tie.

Most tuxedos will however need shirt buttons, cuff links, and nice tuxedo shoes.  It is best to coordinate your accessories and purchase the same brands if possible.  If you are renting many of these tuxedo accessories will be provided for you.

It is especially important to not overlook the type of tuxedo shoes you buy or rent.  You will be wearing your tux for long periods of time and comfortable shoes are a must.  Make sure you “break in” new shoes by wearing them for several hours prior to any event you will be wearing them to.

If buying a tuxedo isn’t something you want to do because you are afraid it will become too small, large, or outdated over time, you can choose to rent your tux while buying your tuxedo accessories.  Many people decide buying a bow tie, vest, or cummerbund is an inexpensive alternative to renting all of the time.  You also do not have to worry about sizing issues as time goes on.
